Ayamonte exhumation authorized to investigate potential stolen baby case

The Junta de Andalucía has authorized and funded exhumation work in the Ayamonte cemetery (Huelva) to investigate a potential “stolen baby” case. The operation aims to determine if skeletal remains are present within a coffin and, if so, extract DNA samples for comparison with the DNA of the alleged parents.

Requested by the family through the Asociación Bebés Robados de Huelva, the project involves specialized services to conduct the exhumation. DNA analysis will be performed at the University of Granada’s genetic identification laboratory. The initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Ayamonte City Council, which has provided the necessary access permits and funerary personnel.

Since January 2019, this regional effort has resulted in the exhumation of 4,582 victims and the DNA analysis of 4,375 victims and 2,939 family members.
