Ayanna Pressley compares MAGA movement to the Confederacy

Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) compared the MAGA movement to the Confederacy during a campaign appearance at Roxbury Community College in Boston. Speaking in support of Senator Ed Markey, Pressley argued that the movement represents political forces that persist regardless of who occupies the White House.

Pressley stated, “It is bigger than Trump,” and claimed that “whenever we do the work of ousting the occupant of the Oval Office, the Confederacy is still alive and well. That’s all MAGA is.” She further framed the movement within a broader context of racial struggle, asserting that “white supremacy is still alive and well” and that anti-blackness remains a persistent issue.

The remarks were made during the Democratic primary contest for the Massachusetts Senate seat, where Senator Markey is facing a challenge from Representative Seth Moulton. Pressley, who endorsed Markey in March, cited their shared focus on immigration, criminal justice reform, and progressive policy goals as reasons for her support.
