Ayase Ueda scores for Lille in 1-2 loss to Nice

Japanese forward Ayase Ueda scored his third goal in four official matches for Lille during a Ligue 1 match against Nice on September 20, 2026. Despite Ueda’s goal in the 79th minute, Lille suffered a 1-2 defeat, marking their first loss of the season.

Ueda’s goal gained significant attention for its technical execution, involving a skillful trap using his back to control a lofted pass before finishing with his left foot. Local media and fans praised his positioning and fighting spirit, with some outlets noting his ability to compete alongside veteran striker Olivier Giroud.

Lille manager Davide Ancelotti commented on the dynamic between Ueda and Giroud, stating that while they compete for positions, they are capable of coexisting on the pitch due to their different playing styles. Ueda has maintained a strong scoring pace since joining the club, totaling six goals across eight matches in all competitions this season.
