Aydın Adnan Menderes University to implement CARL system in Türkiye

Aydın Adnan Menderes University (ADÜ) is set to become the first institution in Türkiye to implement the CARL (Controlled Automated Reperfusion of the Whole Body) system as part of its ‘Safe Campus 2.0 Project’.

The CARL system is an advanced technology used in extracorporeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR). It aims to manage the reperfusion process by monitoring and controlling parameters such as blood temperature, pH, calcium, and osmolarity. This controlled approach is designed to reduce brain damage and re-perfusion injury in patients experiencing out-of-hospital cardiac arrest.

The project involves a coordinated effort between the university’s Faculty of Medicine, departments of Emergency Medicine, Cardiology, and Cardiovascular Surgery, and the First Aid Training and Application Center. The goal is to create a holistic intervention model that includes early detection, rapid CPR, the use of automated external defibrillators (AED), and the application of ECPR to improve neurological outcomes for patients.
