Aydın chestnut season begins with 600 TL per kilogram price

The new chestnut harvest season has officially commenced in Aydın, Turkey, marked by a symbolic ceremony at the Aydın Commodity Exchange. During the event, the first 160 kilograms of chestnuts from 16 producers—primarily from Köşk, Eğrikavak, and Umurlu—were purchased at a symbolic price of 600 TL per kilogram.

Aydın is a leading producer in Turkey, accounting for approximately 25,500 tons of the country's 83,000-ton annual chestnut production. The region maintains an inventory of 880,000 chestnut trees and supports approximately 5,700 registered producers. The Aydın chestnut holds European Union geographical indication status, noted for its thin shell and easy-to-separate meat.

Fevzi Çondur, Chairman of the Aydın Commodity Exchange, noted that approximately 60% of the chestnuts produced in Aydın are exported abroad. This follows a previous year where the average producer purchase price was 171.8 TL.
