Aydın environmental workshop addresses water and climate issues

Stakeholders from public institutions, local governments, universities, the private sector, and NGOs gathered at Aydın Adnan Menderes University for the Zero Waste, Environment, and Climate Change Workshop. The event utilized a “from local to national waste and resource management” approach to identify environmental priorities and develop concrete, scalable solutions for the Aydın region.

The workshop organized participants into 15 thematic working groups. These groups addressed diverse topics including climate, disaster, and nature management; water resources and irrigation efficiency; marine and coastal ecosystems; agriculture and food security; and the management of plastics and single-use products. Other discussions focused on industrial transformation, energy, transportation, tourism, and zero-waste practices within healthcare institutions.

Key priorities identified during the sessions included the efficient use of water resources, the protection of agricultural production, the reduction of food waste, and preparing for the local impacts of climate change. The workshop aimed to establish measurable goals and a strategic model following the chain of “Waste → Savings → Waste → Transformation → Climate Impact” to reintegrate resources into the economy.
