Aydın: Funeral held for Kumsal Kayan after fatal shooting

The funeral of 20-year-old Kumsal Kayan was held in the Eskihisar neighborhood of Sultanhisar, Aydın, following her death in a hospital. Kayan was shot with a handgun by her former boyfriend, 21-year-old V. D., in the Nazilli district on October 27.

Kayan's family has called for justice, alleging that the attack was premeditated. Her mother, Nurgül Etik, stated that the victim had broken up with the suspect months prior and had been subjected to continuous threats and stalking. The family noted that despite obtaining a restraining order and filing multiple complaints, the protection was insufficient. The mother expressed a desire for the suspect to receive a sentence of aggravated life imprisonment.

Kayan's grandmother, Selma Özkurt, claimed that the suspect had taken the victim's phone, which prevented her from using the KADES emergency button to call for help. The suspect, who reportedly has a criminal record, was previously arrested in connection with the incident.
