Aydın schools undergo earthquake safety and academic preparations
In the Aydın province of Turkey, authorities are conducting preparations for the upcoming academic year while addressing earthquake safety concerns in local schools. In the Söke district, officials are inspecting the physical and pedagogical readiness of educational institutions to ensure a safe and complete start to the new term, following the vision of the ‘Türkiye Yüzyılı Maarif Modeli’.
In the Efeler district, critical decisions have been made regarding the structural integrity of long-standing schools. Cumhuriyet İlkokulu, which serves approximately 800 students across 29 classrooms, will be demolished due to being earthquake-prone. Students from this school will relocate to Yahya Kemal Beyatlı İlkokulu for the new term.
Additionally, Aydın Lisesi, which hosts about 500 students, will undergo structural reinforcement rather than demolition. This work is scheduled to begin during the second semester of the 2026-2027 academic year. During the reinforcement process, students are expected to temporarily move to Cumhuriyet Lisesi to continue their education.
