Aydın's Çine District Forest Fire Prompts Parliamentary Inquiry

A forest fire that began on 30 July 2026 in the Madran Dağı area of Çine, Aydın province burned for four days, scorching thousands of dunams of forest, farmland, orchards and animal shelters. The blaze destroyed homes, agricultural equipment and killed many livestock, prompting local residents to lose years of livelihood.

Member of Parliament Evrim Karakoz raised the incident in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, demanding a parliamentary investigation and a written response from Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı. Karakoz asked about the fire’s cause, the timing of the first alarm, the deployment of ground and aerial crews, possible shortcomings in personnel, equipment or inter‑agency coordination, and the total area and economic loss.

Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change Ömer Bulut and Aydın Governor Dr. Osman Varol visited the affected neighbourhoods, met with residents, and inspected the damage. They reported that authorities are conducting rapid damage assessments, providing emergency assistance, and coordinating reconstruction efforts, emphasizing transparent and swift support for the affected communities.
