Aydın’s Çine district forest fire results in husband’s arrest

A forest fire broke out on 30 July in the Çine district of Aydın Province, Turkey, and burned roughly 3,000 hectares over three days. Investigators determined the blaze was caused by the use of a semaver and a barbecue grill.

Two suspects – a married couple identified as S. K. and K. K. – were detained by the gendarmerie. The husband, S. K., was charged with negligent arson and ordered to be held in pre‑trial detention, while his wife, K. K., was released under judicial control. Governor Osman Varol briefed the press, noting that two expert reports and the gendarmerie’s site‑inspection findings led to the arrests and that the legal process is ongoing.
