Aydos Museum opens at Aydos Castle in Istanbul

The Sultanbeyli Municipality has opened the Aydos Museum at Aydos Castle in Istanbul. The museum aims to showcase the historical, political, and cultural significance of the castle to visitors.

Sultanbeyli Mayor Ali Tombaş noted that the site is a vital heritage for Istanbul, citing historian Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık’s description of Aydos Castle as the place where the process leading to the conquest of Istanbul began. The museum features artifacts uncovered during excavation and restoration efforts, including columns, bases, profiled stones, arch pieces, decorative relief plates, and water flow components.

The exhibits include items dating back to the Early and Middle Byzantine periods, providing insight into the stonework, architectural styles, and construction techniques used in defense structures of that era. Visitors can also view projection videos detailing the castle's history and epoxy-printed photographs documenting the 12-year restoration process. The museum offers free admission and is open weekdays from 09:00 to 17:00 and weekends from 09:00 to 19:00, except on Mondays.
