Ayelén Sofía Páez identified after disappearance in Bogotá

Authorities have identified the remains of 16-year-old Ayelén Sofía Páez Oliveros, who had been missing from Bogotá since August 9, 2025. The identification was confirmed by Medicina Legal after her body was discovered by a passerby in a rural area of Sopó, Cundinamarca, during a recent holiday weekend.

Before her disappearance, the teenager was in the Chapinero locality preparing for her Saber 11 examinations. Security footage from the time showed her walking alone through various neighborhoods, including Avenida Primero de Mayo and Kennedy, without any visible companions.

While the identification provides closure to the search, the investigation remains open. Legal representatives for the family are calling for a thorough examination of all hypotheses to determine the circumstances of her death. Forensic experts are expected to conduct further examinations to check for signs of violence and establish a definitive cause of death.
