Ayhan Barut raises agricultural concerns in Turkish Parliament

Ayhan Barut, a member of the Turkish Grand National Assembly and YENİ Party Adana Deputy, has raised two critical agricultural issues in Parliament.

First, Barut addressed grievances regarding land consolidation in Adana. He noted that state-led consolidation has changed land parcel and map information, creating bureaucratic hurdles for farmers. Specifically, farmers with valid underground water well licenses from the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ) are struggling to update their permits because the new cadastral data requires consent from a majority of owners or heirs, a burden Barut argues should not fall on the producers.

Second, Barut issued a warning regarding the resurgence of foot-and-mouth disease in Turkey. He criticized the current approach of closing livestock markets and administering vaccines as insufficient, calling for a strategy that breaks the transmission chain rather than just managing crises. He highlighted that the SAT-1 serotype has been reported in Turkey, Lebanon, and Greece, and urged the Ministry to move beyond reactive measures to ensure food security and the economic stability of the livestock sector.
