Aylín Mujica's son Mauro Menéndez dies at 30 in Barbados
Mauro Menéndez, the 30‑year‑old son of Cuban actress Aylín Mujica and musician Osamu Menéndez, died while in Barbados. Known professionally as DJ Maahez, he had been suffering from pneumonia and, despite his mother’s urging to rest, travelled to the island to attend a baseball game. Reports say he suffered a sudden heart attack during the trip.
Mujica learned of the tragedy while filming the cooking reality show Top Chef VIP in Bogotá, Colombia. Her father, Osamu Menéndez, confirmed the death on social media, posting a brief message that he was “devastated” and was flying to retrieve his son’s body. The actress posted a heartfelt farewell on her own accounts, describing her son as a “light, love and joy” and thanking the outpouring of support from colleagues and fans.
The incident has prompted condolences from numerous Latin‑American entertainment figures, and media outlets continue to report the pending medical details, with pneumonia‑related complications and a possible infarction cited as likely causes.
