Aymeric Laporte cites lack of trust from Deschamps for Spain switch

Spanish international defender Aymeric Laporte has addressed his decision to switch national allegiances from France to Spain, citing a lack of confidence from former French manager Didier Deschamps.

In an interview on the YouTube channel ‘El camino de Mario’, the 32-year-old defender explained that while he maintains an affection for his country of origin, his professional situation forced a change in perspective. Laporte noted that despite being called up to the French squad on several occasions, he felt Deschamps did not count on him.

Since making his debut for Spain in 2021, Laporte has become a key figure for the national team, contributing to major successes including a World Cup title, the Euros, and the Nations League. He emphasized that his connection to Spain is deeply personal, noting that his wife, children, and family are settled there.
