Aymeric Laporte eyes Barcelona move amid World Cup campaign

Spain defender Aymeric Laporte, 32, told El Mundo before the World Cup that he trusts few people, prefers to keep his distance and aims for Spain to win the tournament. The veteran centre‑back, who became a Spanish citizen in 2021, highlighted his enjoyment of football and the experience gained from previous major tournaments.

Laporte, who is under contract with Athletic Bilbao until 2028, has reportedly offered himself to FC Barcelona. Athletic Bilbao would require Barcelona to meet the €10 million compensation paid to Al‑Nassr when Laporte left for Saudi Arabia, or a higher fee. The defender played 30 league matches this season, providing two assists, and remains a starter for Luis de la Fuente’s national side.
