Ayodeji Makun faces social media scrutiny and ₦1bn lawsuit

Nigerian comedian Ayodeji Makun, popularly known as AY, is facing public scrutiny and legal action following recent social media revelations and a defamation lawsuit.

After attending Afrobeats singer Asake’s concert in Houston, AY shared an Instagram message from 2019 in which Asake, then known as Ololade, requested support for his music. AY stated he did not see the message at the time and attributed the singer’s success to talent and hard work rather than his own influence. The revelation drew mixed reactions from social media users, some of whom questioned the timing of the disclosure.

Separately, AY has filed a ₦1bn lawsuit against ThisDay Newspaper. The legal action follows a report by the outlet regarding his relationship with Belema Oil and Tein Jack-Rich, which AY’s legal team describes as unfounded and defamatory. AY criticized the media outlet for publishing unverified rumors, stating that such accusations can ruin lives.
