Ayodele Jamgbadi charged with murder after railway worker death
Ayodele Jamgbadi, 29, is facing a murder charge following the death of 61-year-old railway worker Jorge Ortega at Ilford station in east London. The incident occurred on December 4, 2024, after Jamgbadi allegedly missed an Elizabeth line train heading toward Stratford.
According to prosecution evidence presented at Inner London Crown Court, Jamgbadi became angry and began kicking an advertising frame. When Mr. Ortega and two other staff members emerged from an office to calm him down, Jamgbadi allegedly punched Mr. Ortega in the face. The force of the blow caused Mr. Ortega to fall and strike his head on the platform, resulting in a severe traumatic brain injury. He died in the hospital two days later.
CCTV footage reportedly shows the confrontation, and prosecutors stated that Jamgbadi allegedly made aggressive comments to officers following his arrest. Judge Benedict Kelleher informed the jury that Jamgbadi is currently unfit to enter a plea due to his mental health and is receiving hospital treatment. Mr. Ortega was a customer experience assistant and a member of the RMT union.
