Ayodhya lawyers bar association bans representation of Ram Temple donation theft suspects

The Faizabad (Ayodhya) Bar Association voted on June 29 to prohibit any of its members from defending the eight individuals arrested in the alleged embezzlement of donations to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple. Lawyers who break the resolution would face a fine of ₹5 lakh. The association also issued an ultimatum that three former trust officials – Champat Rai, Anil Mishra and Gopal Rao – must leave Ayodhya within three days, warning of a city‑wide blockade if they do not comply.

The case concerns claims that donors' cash, diamonds, silver and other valuables worth roughly ₹7‑7.5 crore were misappropriated. A Special Investigation Team continues the probe, and the eight accused, who were involved in counting and handling temple offerings, remain in judicial custody. Bar Association secretary Shailendra Jaiswal said, "The sentiments of all of us have been hurt by the theft of temple offerings," underscoring the lawyers' emotional stance against defending the suspects.
