Ayodhya Ram Temple donation scandal sparks calls for harsh punishment
Investigations have uncovered alleged misappropriation of donations collected for the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Low‑paid staff tasked with counting the contributions are reported to have purchased luxury cars, motorcycles, a high‑value flat and a farmhouse within a short period, raising suspicions of corruption.
The Sri Ram Janmabhoomi Trust is accused of having prior knowledge of the irregularities but failing to file an official police complaint. Police conducted a raid on June 5, seizing assets from suspects, while the trust’s inaction has been questioned. Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has publicly demanded that anyone found responsible, regardless of influence, receive severe punishment, emphasizing the need for transparent and accountable handling of religious donations.
