Ayodhya Ram Temple Donation Theft: Lawyers to Refuse Defence

Eight individuals have been arrested in connection with the theft of cash, jewellery and other valuables pledged as donations (chadhava) to the Ram Temple in Ayodhya. Police have recovered roughly ₹7.9‑₹8.5 million during raids on the suspects' homes.

Members of the Fazlabad Bar Association have announced that they will not represent the accused, citing hurt sentiments over the alleged robbery of temple donations. A proposal to bar any lawyer from taking the case will be voted on at the association’s general body meeting on Monday, after which a final decision will be announced. Senior advocates have called for strict police action and a possible custody remand for the suspects.

The boycott reflects broader outrage among local legal circles, who argue the crime tarnishes the reputation of Ayodhya. Police are expected to seek a custodial remand during the upcoming court appearance.
