Ayotzinapa protests intensify as students target military site in Iguala
As the 12th anniversary of the disappearance of 43 Ayotzinapa students approaches, protests and demonstrations have intensified across Guerrero and Mexico City. In Iguala, students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal School launched homemade explosives toward the 27th Infantry Battalion military installations. The students and families demand the Mexican Army release 853 intelligence files that they believe are crucial to uncovering the truth about the events of September 2014. No injuries were reported during the explosion.
In Mexico City, families of the missing held a rally at the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) headquarters to demand justice and information regarding the whereabouts of their children. Amidst these protests, President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that a specialized prosecutor's office would present an investigation progress report later this week. The demonstrations involve various social organizations and student federations seeking to hold authorities accountable for the lack of resolution in the case.
