President Claudia Sheinbaum met with the families of the 43 Ayotzinapa students at Palacio Nacional to discuss recent developments in the investigation into their 2014 disappearance. During the meeting, authorities presented new investigation lines, specifically focusing on the analysis of cellular telephone records from the night and early morning of the disappearance. This analysis has reportedly helped identify individuals not previously linked to the case.

Families and legal representatives requested that the government strengthen the prosecution against former Guerrero Governor Ángel Aguirre Rivero, who was recently detained for allegedly concealing evidence. They emphasized that the four-month complementary investigation period must be used to bolster the case. Additionally, families continue to demand access to approximately 800 pages of military documents and the return of the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) to assist in the case.

While acknowledging these investigative advances, the families expressed that they remain far from knowing the actual whereabouts of the 43 students. President Sheinbaum committed to providing a public report on these investigation lines and recent detentions before the 12th anniversary of the disappearance on September 26.
