Ayotzinapa students protest in Guerrero over 43 missing classmates

Students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Normal School of Ayotzinapa have launched a series of protests in Guerrero, Mexico, marking the upcoming 12th anniversary of the disappearance of 43 students in Iguala.

During the demonstrations, protesters blocked the Palo Blanco highway toll booth and held a rally in front of the Guerrero Congress. The students, traveling in multiple buses, demanded the presentation of their missing classmates alive and called for significant progress in the ongoing investigations. They specifically urged the Mexican Army to release all relevant information and called on President Claudia Sheinbaum to provide answers to the families regarding the whereabouts of the missing students.

The protesters also criticized the administrations of former presidents Enrique Peña Nieto and Andrés Manuel López Obrador, accusing them of obstructing the Interdisciplinary Group of Independent Experts (GIEI) from uncovering the truth. The demonstrations serve as a remembrance of the events of September 26-27, 2014, which involved attacks by the Guerreros Unidos criminal group and local police forces.
