AySA replaces century-old water valves in Buenos Aires

Agua y Saneamientos Argentinos (AySA) has completed the replacement of two water valves in the Villa Urquiza neighborhood of Buenos Aires. The valves, which were originally installed in 1917, were part of the main lines 9 and 10 that transport treated water from the San Martín Plant to the Devoto Pumping Station.

The operation involved installing new butterfly valves on the 1,100 mm diameter master pipes. These modern replacements significantly improve operational efficiency, requiring only 60 to 80 turns to close compared to the 400 to 500 turns required by the century-old devices. This upgrade is intended to enhance maintenance capabilities and emergency response speeds.

The intervention caused temporary water supply disruptions, including low pressure or service cuts, across 15 neighborhoods, including Palermo, Belgrano, Villa Devoto, and Villa Urquiza. Additionally, traffic on Avenida de los Constituyentes at the intersection with La Pampa was reduced to a single lane to facilitate the works and subsequent repaving.
