Aysam leadership addresses Guaymallén sewage overflows
Darío Hernández, the new head of Aguas y Saneamiento Mendoza (Aysam), met with Guaymallén Mayor Marcos Calvente and Irrigation General Superintendent Sergio Marinelli to address recurring sewage overflows in the department. The meeting follows the resignation of former president Humberto Mingorance, who stepped down for personal reasons.
Hernández has identified the Guaymallén sewage system as a top priority for his administration. While he intends to maintain existing work lines, the focus will shift toward intervening in the local sewage infrastructure, particularly during storm events when overflows are most frequent.
Minister of Government, Infrastructure, and Territorial Development Natalio Mema defended the current works plan, valued at approximately USD 350 million. Addressing legal scrutiny regarding the discharge of untreated effluents, Mema stated that decisions made during overflows were intended to prevent greater harm by diverting waste into designated channels, a standard contingency procedure.
