Aysun Özbek reappears after 18 years following volleyball retirement

Former Turkish national volleyball player Aysun Özbek has reappeared in the public eye after approximately 18 years. A key figure in the era that established the ‘Filenin Sultanları’ moniker, Özbek was a prominent middle blocker who represented the national team in over 200 matches.

Her career included significant achievements, such as winning a silver medal at the 2003 European Women's Volleyball Championship and contributing to Turkey's gold medal at the 2005 Mediterranean Games. At the club level, she played for major teams including Fenerbahçe and VakıfBank Güneş Sigorta, winning the European Top Teams Cup and the European Challenge Cup, where she was named Most Valuable Player.

Özbek retired from professional volleyball in 2008, a decision that at the time sparked public discussion regarding her personal choices. She recently attended a Turkey-Poland match as a spectator, where her presence and comments regarding the national team's competitive spirit drew attention on social media.
