Ayumu Suzuki named to Premier League Team of the Week

Aston Villa goalkeeper Ayumu Suzuki has been selected for the Premier League Team of the Week for Matchweek 7. The selection was made by English football legend Alan Shearer, following Suzuki's performance in Aston Villa's 1-0 victory against Newcastle United.

During the match, Suzuki contributed to a clean sheet with a critical fingertip save against a powerful shot in the second half. Since joining the club this summer, the 24-year-old Japanese international has earned significant attention for his shot-stopping abilities and composure with the ball at his feet, recording three clean sheets to date.

While Suzuki received recognition from Shearer, former striker Troy Deeney's version of the weekly best eleven for the BBC omitted the goalkeeper, selecting Brighton's Bart Verbruggen instead. Media reports noted that Deeney's selection criteria focused on match quality, though Suzuki's impactful role at Aston Villa continues to draw widespread scrutiny and praise.
