Ayush Mhatre sidelined by hamstring surgery
Mumbai Ranji Trophy vice-captain and Chennai Super Kings batter Ayush Mhatre is expected to be sidelined for several months following surgery for a Grade 4 right hamstring tear. The 19-year-old sustained the injury while running between the wickets during Mumbai’s Ranji Trophy season opener against Chandigarh at Wankhede Stadium on October 11, 2026.
Mhatre underwent a 90-minute procedure performed by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Dinshaw Pardiwala at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai. Recovery estimates suggest he could be out for approximately three to four months, which will cause him to miss the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and a significant portion of the Ranji Trophy season.
The injury is a setback for both Mumbai and the Chennai Super Kings as they prepare for upcoming domestic and IPL seasons. Mhatre had previously dealt with a left hamstring injury during the 2026 IPL.
