Ayvacık, Turkey hosts women’s heritage fashion show

Halk Eğitim Merkezi students in Ayvacık district of Çanakkale province organized a fashion show titled “Kaz Dağları’na Taşınan Hikayeler; Göçün İzindeki Kadın”. The event took place in the town of Küçükkuyu during Life‑Long Learning Week and featured 35 designs that reinterpret traditional women’s clothing from the Kaz Dağları region.

Twenty‑five amateur student models walked the runway to classical music, showcasing outfits made from reclaimed fabrics, old lace, curtains and other waste materials. Teacher Hatice Karaduman explained that the collection emphasizes migration, women’s resilience and Anatolian cultural richness while applying sustainable and up‑cycling principles. District governor Mustafa Karali attended and thanked the Halk Eğitim Merkezi, the local education directorate and the participants for reviving forgotten handicraft techniques.

The showcase aimed to bring forgotten textile heritage back to life and to highlight sustainable design practices within the community.
