Ayvalık hosts second annual Rahvan horse races
The second annual Rahvan Horse Races took place in the Ayvalık district of Balıkesir, Turkey. The event was organized by the Ayvalık Municipality in collaboration with the Ayvalık Rahvan Horses and Equestrian Association to celebrate the 104th anniversary of the town's liberation from occupation.
Approximately 100 horses participated in the competitions across various categories, which included participation from female riders. In addition to the races, the event featured traditional demonstrations such as horse archery and watermelon cutting while mounted on horseback.
Ayvalık Mayor Mesut Ergin presented awards to the winning riders. Muharrem Dalkesen, President of the Ayvalık Rahvan Horses and Equestrian Association, stated that the goal of the event is to preserve traditional equestrian sports and bring them into the modern era, expressing intent to make the races a recurring tradition.
