Ayvalık International Film Festival begins its fifth year

The 5th Ayvalık International Film Festival has commenced in Ayvalık, Turkey. Organized by the Seyir Association in collaboration with the Ayvalık Municipality, the event features 76 films from various countries.

Distinguished by its non-competitive format and lack of red carpets, the festival aims to foster a close connection between filmmakers and the public. Festival Director Azize Tan emphasized that the event’s growth is due to the support of the local community, businesses, and the cinema industry.

This year marks the introduction of the ‘Kahve İçen Yorulmaz Geleceğin Sinemacıları Ödülü’ (The Tireless Coffee-Drinking Future Filmmakers Award), a 200,000 TL prize sponsored by Kurukahveci Mehmet Efendi. The inaugural recipient was Melik Kuru for the film ‘İsimsiz Eserler Mezarlığı’. Additionally, Pedro Almodóvar’s film ‘Buruk Noel’ was screened in Turkey for the first time during the opening festivities.
