Ayvalık olive oil warehousing project protocol signed
A technical project support protocol has been signed to establish the North Aegean Olive Oil Licensed Warehousing Facility in Ayvalık. The project is being supported by the South Marmara Development Agency (GMKA) and involves a collaboration between various chambers of commerce and industry, including the Ayvalık, Edremit, and Burhaniye Chambers of Commerce, as well as the Balıkesir Chamber of Industry.
The facility, managed by Kuzey Ege Zeytinyağı Lisanslı Depoculuk ve Tarım A. Ş., is designed to serve the production basins of Balıkesir, Çanakkale, and İzmir. The initial investment phase aims for a 6,000-ton storage capacity and is estimated to cost approximately 6 million USD. The site will cover a total area of 14,000 square meters, with 4,000 square meters of enclosed space.
Key objectives of the project include enhancing olive oil quality through standardized, traceable storage and providing producers with easier access to financing via the Electronic Product Receipt (ELÜS) system. This system is intended to prevent producers from being forced to sell at low prices during harvest seasons, reduce unregistered economic activity, and contribute to regional development.
