Ayvalık tourists walk between Cunda and Maden Islands

During the summer months, the Yalancı Boğaz strait in the Ayvalık district of Balıkesir becomes shallow enough to allow tourists to walk between Cunda Island and Maden Island. This natural, rocky path spans approximately 500 meters and has gained popularity among domestic and foreign visitors following social media coverage.

Despite its appeal, local authorities have issued warnings regarding safety. Ümit Özgültekin, General Secretary of the Ayvalık Tourism Infrastructure Development Service Union and President of the Ayvalık Tourism Association, advised visitors not to traverse the path alone. He noted that currents can cause sudden rises in water levels and warned that certain areas contain deep pits. Özgültekin emphasized that individuals who cannot swim should strictly avoid the area and suggested participating in organized group tours to mitigate risks.
