Ajax defeats FC Groningen 5-2 to end winless run

Ajax secured a decisive 5-2 victory against FC Groningen at the Euroborg, ending a recent period of poor form. Following a loss in the UEFA Conference League and recent domestic draws, manager Míchel Sánchez implemented six changes to the starting lineup, including starting Marcos Leonardo over Tolu Arokodare to manage workload.

Julian Brandt was a standout performer, scoring twice to lead the attack. Jorthy Mokio also contributed significantly with two goals, providing an unexpected offensive boost. Aaron Bouwman added a goal to complete the scoring. Despite an early penalty miss by Davy Klaassen and a goal from Groningen’s Brynjólfur Willumsson that briefly narrowed the gap to 1-2, Ajax maintained control to secure the three points.

The win moves Ajax to 18 points in nine matches, placing them just one point behind third-placed PSV in the Eredivisie standings.
