Az Buki Vedi Bulgarian Sunday School begins new year in Cologne
Approximately 300 children, along with parents and teachers, marked the start of the new school year at the ‘Az Buki Vedi’ Bulgarian Sunday School in Cologne. The symbolic first bell was rung by the school’s long-time head, Rositsa Bayraktarski.
The school reported a slight decrease in enrollment from a record 330 students two years ago to the current 300, a change attributed to declining migration from Bulgaria to Germany. The institution includes various age groups, ranging from preschool children to older students.
Founded in 2009 through a parental initiative, the school also organizes an international reading competition. Following the 10th anniversary edition held in Paris in June 2026, the 11th edition is scheduled to take place in Dortmund in June 2027.
