Azerbaijan advances strategic infrastructure and defense ties
Azerbaijan is advancing several strategic infrastructure and diplomatic initiatives. The construction of the Horadiz–Agband railway, a key component of the Zangezur corridor, is nearing completion. The project, which spans 110.4 km, includes the construction of eight stations and significant engineering works, such as the country’s longest railway bridge and several tunnels.
In defense and security, Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have signed a bilateral military cooperation plan for 2027. This agreement was reached during the ADEX 2026 International Defense Exhibition in Baku, following discussions between Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov and his Uzbek counterpart, Lieutenant General Shavkat Xalmuxamedov.
On the diplomatic front, Hikmət Hajiyev, Assistant to the President, stated that Azerbaijan is developing a multi-component geopolitical identity. He noted that following the resolution of the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, the country is positioning itself as a bridge between the Caucasus, the Caspian region, Central Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.
