Azerbaijan and China outline long-term energy transition strategies

Azerbaijan has established a roadmap through 2060 aimed at reducing emissions within its energy sector. The strategy focuses on implementing regulatory frameworks, mobilizing investment, and deploying low-carbon technologies. Key initiatives include expanding solar and onshore wind power, modernizing transmission and distribution networks, and constructing Combined Cycle Gas Turbine plants to support blue hydrogen production. The plan also incorporates carbon capture and storage infrastructure and advanced battery storage to manage renewable energy intermittency.

Separately, DNV’s Energy Transition Outlook 2026 forecasts that Greater China’s net energy-related emissions will decrease by approximately 79% by 2060, reaching 2.8 GtCO2. While this trajectory falls short of net-zero goals, the report anticipates a 50% decline in coal-fired power generation by 2040. The most significant absolute reductions in emissions are expected to occur during the 2030s, with the fastest annual percentage decline occurring after 2040.
