Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan pursue economic diversification and regional investment

At the 2nd Azerbaijan International Investment Forum, President Ilham Aliyev detailed a strategy to transition the national economy from a reliance on petroleum and natural gas toward a more diversified, multi-sector model. Aliyev noted that non-oil and gas sectors currently account for over 70 per cent of Azerbaijan’s GDP, though he emphasized the need for these sectors to become more competitive in international markets.

Separately, at the Turkmenistan Investment Forum 2026, Ravshanbek Sabirov, head of Kyrgyzstan’s National Investment Agency, discussed expanding economic ties between Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. Sabirov identified several priority areas for cooperation, including renewable energy, artificial intelligence, infrastructure, transport, logistics, and the textile industry.
