Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan sign Treaty on Eternal Friendship
Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have signed a Treaty on Eternal Friendship, elevating their relationship to a strategic alliance. The agreement, signed by Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Shavkat Mirziyoyev in Tashkent, establishes a framework for cooperation in security, politics, and economics. Key provisions include mutual support for sovereignty and territorial integrity, with both nations pledging not to participate in blocs that harm the other's security.
Economic ties are expanding rapidly, with bilateral trade reaching $795 million in 2025, a more than threefold increase from previous years. The leaders have set a target to increase trade turnover to $1 billion by 2030. Cooperation also extends to the Azerbaijan-Uzbekistan Investment Company, which holds $500 million in capital, and various joint projects in banking, agriculture, and energy.
Strategic discussions also highlighted the importance of transport and logistics, specifically the integration of the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway with the Middle Corridor. The leaders emphasized that their partnership serves as a model for the broader Turkic world, combining shared cultural identity with practical economic interdependence.
