Azerbaijan authorities solve 2001 murder case in Baku

The Prosecutor General's Office and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan have announced the resolution of a serious crime committed 25 years ago. Following the reopening of a criminal case, investigators identified the perpetrator behind the intentional killing of Haqiqat Mammadova, born in 1961, which occurred on June 30, 2001, in the Nasimi district of Baku.

Through complex investigative actions and the analysis of modern forensic expertise, authorities identified Rovshan Zeynalov, born in 1976, as the primary suspect. Zeynalov, who has a prior conviction for intentional homicide, was detained by police on October 20 and subsequently charged under Article 120.2.9 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the murder of a person in a clearly helpless state.

A Nasimi District Court has ordered his arrest as a preventive measure, and the preliminary investigation remains ongoing.
