Azerbaijan expands parliamentary diplomacy and launches logistics corridor projects
The Azerbaijani parliament is intensifying its parliamentary diplomacy, taking part in bodies such as the UN PA, CIS PA, Asia PA, Black Sea Economic Cooperation PA and others. During a recent official trip, Speaker Sahibə Qafarova visited Ethiopia on July 29 and met with Ethiopian Parliament Speaker Aqeqnehu Tesager, where both sides expressed interest in deepening trade, investment and tourism ties.
Azerbaijan is also promoting the Middle Corridor as a key Eurasian transport route. It hosted the 5th Black Sea‑Caspian Logistics Forum in Baku on 7‑9 September, drawing more than 150 delegates from over 20 countries and representing more than 100 companies. The forum will examine future development of the corridor, cargo‑volume growth for 2026‑27 and needed investment. In parallel, Azerbaijan introduced an electronic permit (E‑Permit) system for road freight with Georgia, issuing 1,000 bilateral, 1,000 transit and 1,000 third‑country permits, making Georgia the fifth nation to adopt the system.
