Azerbaijan implements educational reforms and admission updates

Azerbaijan is implementing several educational and regulatory updates for the 2026/2027 academic year. In the vocational sector, the second stage of student admissions for remaining vacancies begins on August 27, covering 12,766 spots across 69 institutions.

In higher education, Baku Engineering University reports that 98.3% of its admission plan is filled, with expanded dual diploma programs in cooperation with China and South Korea. Meanwhile, data from the State Examination Center shows rising entrance scores for medical specialties at Azerbaijan Medical University, while private universities offer a combined 10,340 spots.

Educational reforms include a mandate that starting in the 2026/2027 school year, 'Azerbaijan History' will be taught in the state language for 7th-grade students in non-Azerbaijani language sections. Additionally, President Ilham Aliyev has approved legislative changes regarding state fees for aquaculture farm registration to strengthen aquatic resource management.

In cultural preservation, the Prosecutor General's Office is investigating unauthorized restoration and construction work at several protected historical and cultural monuments in the Nasimi and Khazar districts of Baku.
