Azerbaijan establishes Karabakh National Park

President Ilham Aliyev has signed a decree to establish the Karabakh National Park in Azerbaijan. The initiative aims to expand the network of specially protected natural areas and restore the ecological balance of the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions.

The decree notes that the region's biological diversity suffered significant damage during the period of occupation by Armenia, resulting in the destruction of rare plant and animal species listed in the Red Books of Azerbaijan and the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Efforts are being made to transform the liberated territories into “green growth” zones. The establishment of the national park is intended to promote the restoration of biodiversity, ensure the sustainable use of natural resources, and develop ecotourism in the region.
