Azerbaijan FM Bayramov Meets Russian FM Lavrov in Moscow to Advance Bilateral Ties

Azerbaijan’s foreign minister Ceyhun Bayramov met Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow on 17 July. The two ministers discussed the current state and future prospects of Azerbaijan‑Russia relations, including economic‑commercial cooperation, humanitarian projects and regional security in the South Caucasus. Lavrov highlighted that bilateral trade reached about $5 billion this year and Russian investments in Azerbaijan total roughly $11 billion, and said both sides intend to expand these ties.

Lavrov also raised broader regional issues, noting the importance of stability in the South Caucasus and the need for cooperation within the “3+3” platform, as well as within the UN, OSCE and CIS frameworks. He warned that disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and potential closures of the Bab al‑Mandeb pose significant risks to global oil trade, and called for immediate cease‑fire arrangements in the region. The ministers reiterated their commitment to addressing security challenges and strengthening multilateral dialogue.
