Azerbaijan Halts Baku Girls University Operations After Accreditation Failure

The Accreditation Council meeting on 10 July 2026 concluded that Baku Girls University did not meet the state education standards, rating both its institutional and program accreditation as “unsuitable.” Based on this assessment, the Ministry of Education invoked the Law on Education to suspend the university’s educational activities and initiate the licence termination process.

The Ministry of Economy subsequently cancelled the university’s licence (EL‑358/2018, issued 11 September 2018) on 30 July 2026, citing serious and unaddressed non‑conformities with quality‑assurance and regulatory requirements.

The decision follows Azerbaijan’s accreditation rules, which require reassessment every five years, and reflects the government’s enforcement of higher‑education standards.
