Azerbaijan launches European campaign against landmine threats

The “Mine-Free World” international campaign, initiated by Azerbaijan’s Gilavar Photo Club Public Union, has held a series of photo exhibitions across several European cities to highlight the ongoing danger of landmines. Events were hosted in Milan, Geneva, Brno, Ljubljana, Sarajevo, Zagreb, Salzburg, and Rome throughout October.

Organizers emphasized that while the conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia has concluded, landmines laid during the occupation of Azerbaijani territories continue to pose a significant risk to civilians and hinder lasting peace. The campaign calls for Armenia to fulfill its obligations by providing accurate minefield maps.

In a separate effort, the Karabakh Missing Persons’ Families Public Union has organized protests in Europe. On October 20 and 21, relatives of missing Azerbaijanis held demonstrations in Brussels, including at Schuman Square near the European Parliament, to demand clarification regarding the fate of 4,010 individuals reported missing during the First Karabakh War.
