Azerbaijan marks 35th anniversary of independence restoration

Azerbaijan is marking the 35th anniversary of its Restoration of Independence, a date commemorating the October 18, 1991, constitutional act that reclaimed sovereignty following the Soviet era. To honor the occasion, various cultural and academic events have been held internationally.

In Rome, Italy, the Azerbaijani Embassy and the Cultural Center organized ‘The Sound of a Nation’ at Piazza di Spagna. The event featured traditional music, including performances on the kamancha, tar, and naghara, alongside national dances such as ‘Yalli’ and ‘Jangi’. Ambassador Elchin Huseynli addressed the audience, noting the historical continuity with the 1918 Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the challenges faced on the path to independence.

In Eskişehir, Türkiye, the International Azerbaijan Congress, titled ‘In the 35th Year of the Restoration of Independence’, opened at Anadolu University. Organized by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora and several academic institutions, the congress aims to strengthen scientific and cultural cooperation between Azerbaijan and Türkiye. The ceremony included a minute of silence for martyrs and discussions on expanding academic ties and diaspora relations.
