Azerbaijan Ministry of Finance targets food security and import substitution
The Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan has outlined a strategy to strengthen food security and support import substitution policies. To achieve this, the ministry emphasizes increasing the production potential of strategic goods, including wheat, meat, milk, fish, and vegetable oils.
Key objectives include improving productivity through intensive production methods and refining state support mechanisms. The plan also focuses on developing the processing industry in sectors such as fruit, vegetable, hazelnut, and cotton production to increase value-added exports. To support these efforts, the ministry suggests expanding logistics infrastructure, including cold storage, and aligning products with international quality standards to attract both local and foreign investment.
Furthermore, the ministry highlights the need for efficient use of land and water resources through modern irrigation systems and digital technologies. This includes expanding the functionality of the Electronic Agricultural Information System (EKTIS) to monitor production volumes, livestock numbers, and subsidy distribution on a unified platform.
