Azerbaijan Parliament Speaker Sahibə Qafarova Meets Ethiopian Leaders

On July 29‑30, 2026, Sahibə Qafarova, speaker of Azerbaijan’s National Assembly, visited the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia. She met with the speaker of Ethiopia’s Federal Parliament, Aqeqnehu Teşager, in Addis Ababa, reaffirming the growing partnership after Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s recent visit to Baku. Both sides discussed expanding trade, investment and tourism, and Qafarova highlighted Azerbaijan’s ASAN service model and its support for Ethiopia’s implementation of similar e‑government solutions.

The visit also included a gathering of ambassadors from several African nations and other regions, where Qafarova stressed the role of parliamentary diplomacy in multilateral cooperation. Discussions covered the Inter‑Parliamentary Union, the African Union’s 2063 agenda, and the impact of Azerbaijan’s successful hosting of COP29, noting Ethiopia’s plan to host COP32 in 2027 and its interest in Azerbaijan’s climate‑change experience.
